TiltBack™-principle used in bus

TiltBack™ is a safety seat for children integrated in the back of a "normal" bus passenger seat.

TiltBack™ acts as a normal passenger seat, and a simple movement transforms it into a safety seat for children up to approx. 4 years of age (20 kg). A corresponding movement "returns" it into an adult's seat again.

TiltBack™ shall satisfy the safety, comfort and functionality requirements found in European standards.

TiltBack™ will, when used as a child's seat, give the greatest possible safety for the child.

SIT Safe conciders that the TiltBack™-principle is to be an indicator when establishing standards for safe public transport of children in Norway as well as abroad.

TiltBack™ is mounted like a normal bus passenger seat. A simple movement releases a mechanism which tilts the back of the seat forwards and locks it in that position. As the back moves forwards, a "cushion" folds downwards to form the seat of the child's safety seat.

TiltBack™ is designed for children up to 20 kg (approx. 40 lbs.)

All security tests show that children obtain the greatest security when seated facing backwards. TiltBack™ will thus, when used as a child's seat, give the best possible safety for the child.

The back of the TiltBack™ seat is formed to give the necessary support and the best seating angle for the child, at the same time as it has a good upholstery for the child's body. The child is seated backwards in the vehicle, fastened with a 5-point seat belt. The seat back is locked in both end positions, according to the stipulated safety regulations. When the seat is not in use as a child's safety seat, it acts as a normal bus passenger seat.

TiltBack™ can be delivered either as a double seat (two TiltBack™-seats side-by-side), or one "normal" seat and one TiltBack™ in combination, and is adapted to the existing fixtures in the bus. TiltBack™ ensures that the child and his or her companion have good visual contact. Any seat behind the child's seat should be equipped with a 3-point seat belt.

TiltBack™ is to have a neutral form and colour to fit in with most bus interiors. Colours are chosen to make the chair and the brand TiltBack™™ easy to recognize for the users when entering the bus.

As various bus types have different needs, we have developed different TiltBack™ versions:

TiltBack™ City is a seat with slim upholstery in the back, developed for city buses.
TiltBack™ Road is a seat with good upholstery, developed for regional and long-distance travel.
TiltBack™ Highway has upholstery like the Road, plus the possibility to tilt the seat back.
TiltBack™ has the patent number NO 171 542 (Passenger seat, especially made for children).

Patents have been taken out for Norway, EU, Czech Rep., USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Korea and Australia.
